'Two or three players' - Rafa Benitez makes Everton January transfer window admission

Rafa Benitez has told Everton supporters that he is hoping to bring up to three players to the club during the January transfer window.

The window opening represents Benitez with a chance to strengthen his squad that has had its momentum checked in recent months after a solid start to the season.

And speaking to the media ahead of his side’s clash with Brighton this weekend, the Blues boss outlined the club's transfer plans as well revealing that discussions have already been held with other clubs.

"We are working hard. We are trying to find some targets to improve the team. Everybody knows how difficult January is," said Benitez, who appears to have been given further control of transfer activity after the recent exit of director of football Marcel Brands.

"Everybody is a little bit worried about Covid, no-one wants to spend too much money. That is complicated. I am quite confident we will do two or three things."

Benitez then continued: "We are in contact with clubs but it's not just me - the board are (also) looking for the right options.

"Not everybody has a lot of money to spend so we have to be careful when we buy, sell or loan players."

The Everton boss then later concluded: "I said when I came here that I knew the fans, the team and the club. It's exactly the same now.

"I knew what we were looking for in August, we are working to find the right players for the present and the future.

"We are trying to be sure he have chances to improve. What can they [the fans] expect? Two or three players, and players who want to be here."
