The Ohio State coaching staff has been ripping off commitment after commitment here lately, and many of them have been high-profile guys that have had other programs drooling. The Buckeyes have done so well, they’ve gone from No. 14 in the 247Sports overall team rankings for 2020, all the way up to No. 4. This has all happened within the last few weeks — and they’re closing in fast on the top three.
So who’s behind the landslide of verbals coming out of Columbus lately? Clearly, with all the blue-chip wide-receiver prospects flocking in lately, receivers coach Brian Hartline has been lighting up the recruiting trail. But also, don’t forget about Co-Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach Jeff Hafley. He too has landed some pretty big names.
He’s had a hand in landing four-star prospects Clark Phillips, Luke Wypler, Cody Simon, Lejond Cavazos, and high-three star Cameron Martinez who might end up being a four-star when rankings are updated.
Folks have noticed. For their efforts, the two OSU assistants have now been moved up to the Nos. 2 and 3 recruiters in the entire country according to 247Sports, just behind Todd Bates of Clemson.
Things may not be done either. There’s still a few big fish out there that have these two involved, and if any go the way things are trending, it’ll only get even more impressive.
Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program, and right now Hartline and Hafley are carrying the baton right alongside Ryan Day towards building a solid foundation for the future.
