Four police officers dead, 11 shot by sniper at Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas

Four police officers have died and ten have been shot by a sniper at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas.

Police Chief David Brown announced on Thursday that four officers were killed, two are in surgery and three remain in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

Two suspects have been taken into custody and police said a bomb squad was investigating a suspicious package found with one of the suspects.

DART, the Dallas public transportation system, announced on Twitter that all bus and rail services had been suspended “due to criminal activity.”

Several videos with audible gunshots surfaced on social media on Thursday night. Both police and reporters could be seen taking cover in the footage.

The shooter reportedly waited for protesters to pass before opening fire on police officers, one witness told WFAA.

Nationwide protests sparked following the recent police killings of two black men in Louisiana and Minnesota this week.

President Barack Obama addressed the nation on Thursday night saying that change has come too slow after the shootings went viral.

“To be concerned about these issues is not political correctness. It’s just being an American,” President Obama said while visiting in Poland. “And to recognize the reality that we got some tough history and we haven’t gotten through that history yet.”
