South Chicago fire leaves woman in critical condition; 2 Chicago police officers treated for smoke inhalation

A woman was in critical condition, and two Chicago police officers were treated for smoke inhalation as a result of a fire early Sunday morning in a fire in South Chicago.

Officers responded to the fire inside a house in the 3000 block of East 79th Place on the Far South Side around 1:20 a.m. and found a woman unresponsive, the police said.

They said officers carried her outside and began chest compression.

She was taken to Trinity Hospital, where she was in critical condition, officials said.

Two officers were taken to a hospital after suffering smoke inhalation, but both were in good condition, authorities said.
