Two of the best loved chippies in Leeds bought out by new owners

Two famous Leeds chippies have been sold to new owners.

Bryans at The Fisherman’s Lodge on Westwood Lane in Headingley, and The Fisherman’s Lodge on Street Lane, have been taken over by Catch Seafood Ltd.

The chippy takeaway and sister restaurant, two of , have been run by the Koker family for a number of years under the Bryans brand.

“We approached Bryans & Fisherman’s Lodge because they really are an institution here in Leeds and we love it just as much as everyone else", said the new owners.

“But as with all institutions, it should be as relevant in the future as it is today, and we think that by bringing a bit of the Catch magic to both restaurants over time it will be just that.”

Catch Seafood restaurants stretches back nearly 100 years. Originally founded in the north east, the family-run business began back in the 1920s, catching and supplying fish to the local area. Since then Catch has grown into Halifax, Holmfirth and Harrogate.

Led by managing director Sarah Stuttle, Catch prides itself on putting a modern but respectful twist on the classical fish and chip restaurant with stylish fittings, lighter and healthier menu options, a broader selection of drinks and a relaxed but professional service.

The Catch team say they picked Bryans & Fisherman’s Lodge because of the restaurants’ reputation as two of the town’s real gems in the food scene.

New owners Phil Rushfirth, Andrew Bartle, Patrick Allen come from the local area and are excited about expanding. They plan to make some changes, such as full refurbishments which they believe customers old and new will like.

Previous owners, the Koker family, are looking forward to pursuing other similar business investments in Leeds and Harrogate following the sale.

They said: “Having instructed Sam at Christie & Co to sell Bryans in Headingley, we found Catch Seafood wanted to purchase both restaurants which concluded in a great result for everyone."
