Two of Dublin's busiest train stations to close as Irish Rail continue Pearse roof works

Irish Rail have announced further works on replacing the roof at Pearse Street station.

As a result, services heading through the station are set to be affected, and it will also have an impact on Tara Street.

DARTs will only be operating between Howth/Malahide and Connolly and between Grand Canal and Greystones.

The current roof structure dates from the 1880s and is in very poor condition.

Protective mesh netting has been in place in the station below roof level in recent years to protect customers and rail services, due to the corrosion which has occurred.

The next batch of works is this Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21. Here's what to expect:

  • DARTs will operate between Howth/Malahide and Connolly; and between Grand Canal Dock and Greystones only
  • Tara St and Pearse Stations will be closed
  • Bus transfers will operate between Connolly and Bray for Connolly to Wexford/Rosslare Europort services

Physical works are taking place between September 2018 and July 2020. A total of up to 13 dedicated construction weekends are likely to be required during this time to allow for crane operation.

This will require the suspension of train services through the station during these weekends, meaning train services would not operate between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock.
