Two historic public buildings in Annan are set for a revamp.
Dumfries and Galloway Council intends on upgrading Annan Museum and neighbouring Victoria Halls. As these are both 19th century B-listed buildings, a formal planning application has to be approved by councillors first.
The matter will be considered at next Wednesday’s full council meeting where elected members will hear details of alterations, including replacement of dozens of windows, re-slating of the roof, a replacement lift being installed, stone repairs, cleaning and repointing, and some other internal repairs.
A report due to be presented at the planning committee reads: “The application site comprises two buildings, Annan Museum and Victoria Halls, which are situated back-to-back and connected by a central corridor. Both buildings are listed category B.”
It continues: “The applications seek planning permission and listed building consent for the repair and restoration of both buildings.
“Additional works include the removal and replacement of pigeon spikes, replacement windows, removal of non-original partition at first floor level, adding breathable roofing felt over sarking, and replacement of the malfunctioning lift.”
