Two NSW surfers pulled unconscious from water die

SEPARATE incidents have claimed the lives of two surfers in NSW, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called in at Kilick beach at Hat Head, north of Port Macquarie, about 4pm on Sunday after reports a man had been pulled from the surf unresponsive.

Other surfers and people on the beach began CPR before police and paramedics reached the scene, but they were unable to revive the 64-year-old man.

He died at the scene.

Police said a post-mortem to determine the cause of his death is expected this week, while Mid North Coast Police District officers will prepare a report for the coroner.

Separately, emergency services rushed to Illaroo campground at Minnie Water, east of Grafton, about 5pm on Easter Sunday after reports a surfer was found unconscious.

The 48-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene after the Westpac rescue helicopter winched him from the water to the beach

Coffs Clarence police have spoken to witnesses and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
