Two NSW Greens MPs arrested in central Queensland Adani blockade

Two New South Wales Greens MPs are among 13 people who were charged for trespassing at an Adani worksite in central Queensland today.

The group, which included upper house MPs Jeremy Buckingham and Dawn Walker, disrupted work at the Carmichael coal mine rail construction site near Clermont early this morning.

The protesters were taking part in a blockade alongside climate activists and traditional owners.

Seven people agreed to comply with a police move on direction while four refused to leave the site and were eventually removed by police.

Members of the group were charged with trespass unlawfully on a place of business and failing to follow police direction.

A police spokesman said he could not provide details of individual charges but seven people were issued with infringement notices for trespass, including a man and a woman from New South Wales.

The notices carry fines of $252.

Four to appear in court

The four people who refused to comply with police direction were issued notices to appear in court.

Nine people were taken to the Clermont watchhouse.

In a video posted soon after the arrest Mr Buckingham said the mine was a national and international issue.

"We're proud to stand with these activists who've put their bodies on the line and the climate before the profits of crazy, climate-destroying coal mines," he said.

Ms Walker said the Adani project did not stack up "on any level".

"I'm appalled by the way this project is tearing Indigenous communities apart and offering a sub-standard agreement to traditional owners for their land, with little economic opportunity," she said.

Two large Chinese banks this week ruled out involvement in the $21.7 billion mine, which is facing major financing hurdles after Australia's major banks announced they would not be investing.
