Two Notts fish and chip shops make it into the 'Michelin Guide' of UK chippies

Two chippies in Notts are amongst the best in the UK according to the Official Guide to the UK's Quality Fish and Chip Shops - hailed the industry equivalent of the Michelin Star guide.

Around 225 chip shops across the country have made it into the prized list which sets the benchmark for quality.

To qualify, chip shops have to go through an inspection by an independent assessor, who checks out customer service, quality and taste, plus hygiene, working practices and the shop's appearance.

It's the latest accolade for the Cod's Scallops, which has branches in Wollaton and Carrington, and a third in Long Eaton in Derbyshire.

"We at the Jolly Fryer live and breathe fish and chips. We work tirelessly to produce the best possible product we can, and to be acknowledged as one of the best really is some achievement.

"The award doesn't just represent the fish and chips we produce, but also the hard work and high quality produce our local suppliers provide us to work with which in essence keeps us one step ahead."

The guide is published by the National Federation of Fish Friers, which runs the awards scheme as a way of raising standards within the fish and chip trade.

NFFF President Andrew Crook said: "The NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award assessment is extremely comprehensive.

"Food safety is a key area that we examine together with other key aspects of the business including the preparation and cooking equipment, to the management of paperwork and the traceability of fish.

"Jolly Fryer clearly takes pride in where it sources its fish and potatoes from. Achieving the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award provides reassurance to customers that they are being served cooked food using high quality ingredients.”
