Two Nottinghamshire pubs temporarily close over 'Covid-19 cases in area'

Two pubs, less than a mile apart, say they have temporarily closed over 'recent cases of Covid-19 in the area'.

The Dog House, in Kimberley, and the Royal Oak, in Watnall, are both in Broxtowe borough where six new cases of coronavirus were reported on Tuesday (September 1) from the previous 24 hours.

There was no answer from either pub when Nottinghamshire Live tried to contact them but both announced the closure on their Facebook pages.

The Dog House, in Main Street, said: "Although we have not been instructed to do so, in light of the outbreak of Covid 19 in the area we feel the right and proper action is to shut the premises for 48 hours with immediate effect to deep clean and take stock of the situation.

"We apologise for any inconvenience but our staff and customer safety is our number one priority."

The Royal Oak, which is less than five minutes away, in Maid Road, added a similar message saying: "As we have been made aware of multiple people within the Watnall and Kimberley area who have tested positive for Covid we have taken the decision to close our doors for 48 hours.

"We have not been forced to close but wish to do this for our customer and staff safety. We will ensure the pub is sanitised as usual over the next 48 hours. We will re open on Friday at 12 noon."

Despite not being contacted by the NHS Track and Trace system, the pub added: "We have decided to close to do the right thing to limit people coming together. We will also be informing customers that did Track and Trace through our system also just out of courtesy. We have not been forced to close but feel it is the responsible thing to do."

It's not the first time pubs in Notts have closed as a precaution. The Chequers in Ranby and the News Engine House, in Carlton Hill, both temporarily shut in August.

Nottinghamshire County Council has been contacted for comment.
