Two non-league matches postponed due to tragic incident involving Jordan Sinnott

Two non-league matches were postponed following a 'unforeseen and tragic' incident involving Alfreton Town player Jordan Sinnott

Alfreton Town confirmed on Saturday afternoon that their National League North home clash with Gateshead had been postponed, around 90 minutes before kick-off.

Shortly afterwards, nearby Matlock Town confirmed their local derby at Mickleover Sports in the BetVictor Northern Premier Division was also off - citing the same explanation.

Alfreton currently sit 15th in the National League North table, with Gateshead in eighth just outside the play-off places.

Mickleover Sports play their home matches just over 16 miles away from Alfreton and were due to face local rivals Matlock in a derby match on Saturday.

Former club Halifax Town had confirmed that Sinnott had passed away in a tweet - although later deleted it.

Alfreton faced off against Matlock in the Derbyshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night, with the lower-league side progressing with a 3-1 victory.

They said: "We’ve received terrible news that our former player Jordan Sinnott has passed away. The circumstances are not clear and we’ll not be commenting further out of respect to Jordan’s family.

"Our deepest condolences go to Jordan’s family at this extremely difficult time."

Sinnott, who is the son of Huddersfield legend Lee Sinnott, is currently on loan at Matlock.

The midfielder started his career at Huddersfield, where he made two Championship appearances and spent time at League Two Bury.

After he was released in 2015, Sinnott moved to Altrincham to play under his father before moving to Halifax, Chesterfield and Alfreton.
