Two new Speed on Green cameras have arrived in Merseyside

Two more Speed on Green cameras have been activated in Merseyside - meaning drivers are at risk of being caught speeding in even more locations.

Newly released data reveals that two more cameras have been activated since earlier this year.

The cameras, which Merseyside is pioneering within the UK, don't just capture drivers who drive through red light but also record the speed of cars passing when the light is green.

One of the new cameras is in Page Moss, with the other on Queens Drive.

Spots in Liverpool, Wirral and Sefton are already covered by Speed on Green cameras.

Launched earlier this year in an attempt to bring down speeding in our region, Merseyside Police's Jayne Eaton said she hoped the introduction of the cameras would help influence the behaviour of drivers.

She said: “It is vitally important that drivers drive at an appropriate speed [at traffic lights], one which enables them to stop safely should the traffic lights change or a pedestrian step into the road.

“By their very nature, junctions present an increased risk to drivers. However, we would prefer if the cameras were redundant and drivers drove responsibly and within the speed limits.”

It is hoped the introduction of the cameras will aid in reducing in the number of people killed or seriously injured on Merseyside roads, a figure that stood at 577 last year.

Where are the new Speed on Green cameras located?

The exact locations for the two new cameras are:

  • Queens Drive / Mill Bank
  • A57 Liverpool Road/Princess Drive

These are the other six locations where Speed on Green cameras were already active:

  • Crosby Road South/Cambridge Road (Southbound) -
  • Northway (A59)/ Hall Lane
  • Leeds Street/Vauxhall Road
  • New Chester Road (A41) / Pool Lane
  • Archway Road/Rupert Road
  • Park Road North/Duke Street
