Two new drive-through Covid testing sites opened in south Bristol

Two new drive-through Covid testing sites have opened in south Bristol due to high infection rates in the area.

Throughout November, neighbourhoods including Bishopsworth had some of the highest coronavirus rates in the country.

Over the past week, infections have been dropping across the whole city, but we still have the highest cases in the South West.

Today, council chiefs opened two new drive-through Covid testing sites in Hengrove and Bedminster Down in a bid to tackle infections.

A council spokesperson said: “Two new drive-through Covid-19 mobile testing units have been opened in South Bristol in response to the high infection rates in the area and to improve local access to testing.

“Located at Hengrove Leisure Park and in the Computershare car park on Bridgwater Road, the sites, run by the Department of Health and Social Care, will provide fast access to testing for residents and will reduce the need for people with symptoms from having to travel further afield to be tested.

“Testing will run on a strict, appointment-only basis and the sites will be open daily from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Most people will get their test result the next day, but it may take up to three days.”

These new sites are in addition to two other mobile testing units at Portway Park and Ride and Brislington Park and Ride, and two local testing sites at Netham Park and at the rear of Victoria Rooms.
