Two new mobile Covid testing units have been set up by NHS Lanarkshire in Chapelhall and Carluke.
Located respectively at Chapelhall senior citizens’ centre on the village’s Lauchope Street, and at Lifestyles Carluke on Carnwath Road in the town, the centres are open seven days a week.
Both opened for the first time today and are scheduled to be in place for two weeks, until Wednesday, May 5; with Chapelhall opening from 9.30am to 5.30pm, while the Carluke centre opens at the same time and closes at 5pm daily.
NHS Lanarkshire tweeted: “All testing facilities are open seven days, and there is no need to book a test.”
The two new venues are in addition to the mobile testing centres currently in place at Bellshill and Wishaw in North Lanarkshire and at Blantyre, East Kilbride, Hamilton and Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire.
Health board officials said online: “Covid-19 can be spread by people who don’t have symptoms, or [whose] symptoms are so mild [they] may not recognise that they have the infection.
“Test results will help to detect the virus and limit its spread. Lanarkshire residents who have symptoms or not can get tested at one of our mobile testing units, which are open every day.”
Lanarkshire also has two asymptomatic testing sites, only for those who are not displaying coronavirus symptoms – they are located at Airdrie and Larkhall leisure centres, and are open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
The Airdrie centre had completed 1781 tests in the seven weeks from its opening on February 22 until last Wednesday, identifying 23 positive cases of Covid-19 as a result.
