Two new apartment blocks could be built next to Booths in Media City

Plans for two new towers at Media City have been revealed.

Developers Glenbrook want to build two glass towers to house 280 apartments on the car park next to Booths supermarket in Salford .

They submitted their plans for the 14 and 17 storey blocks to Salford council’s planning portal this week.

The site previously won planning permission for a 31-storey tower. But developers now say that the tower would have been ‘oversized’ compared to other buildings around it.

There is no longer a multi-storey car park or office space included in the new design.

Instead, there are shops and residents’ facilities on the ground floor. These include seating and social spaces for the new inhabitants.

Designers also say that they want to ‘anchor the development in green’ to fit in with the rest of Media City’s surroundings, with plans to plant trees ‘wherever it is practically possible’.

And developers have made moves to make the buildings more accessible.

Documents sent to planners say that there will be no ‘section 106’ contributions - cash provided by developers which go towards local projects.

The planning documents also don’t say whether any affordable homes would be included within the project.
