Two names reportedly emerge as Leeds United transfer targets with the January window moving

Two names have emerged as potential targets for Leeds United over the January transfer window, Sheffield United’s Luke Freeman and Barnsley’s Cauley Woodrow.

The Sun on Sunday journalist Alan Nixon suggests the pair are on United's radar as they look to bolster their squad mid-season.

Marcelo Bielsa is two players down on the squad he started the season with, following Jack Clarke and Eddie Nketiah’s recalls to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively.

The Whites head coach has conceded it might be difficult to convince players to join the club following the lack of opportunities afforded to Nketiah and Clarke.

Gunners youngster Nketiah wasn’t given a league start until December 29, while Clarke’s return to Leeds only amounted to 19 Championship minutes.

"It's not an easy job," said Bielsa. "One striker that is playing and doing well, he is not going to come to Leeds to play.

"It's difficult, but the reason we have to think well and analyse and also it's true when you don't have ideal options, you have options that are the best options if you regard the possible options.

"We are going to analyse options for him and [Jack] Clarke. We need to analyse the physical level of the players who are coming, if [they are] playing or not.

"[We need to see] if this player fits our style or [if] we need to make some adaptations. We are going to try to make the best decision."

Freeman made the switch from Queen’s Park Rangers to Sheffield United in the summer, but has struggled for opportunities at Bramall Lane this season.

The 27-year-old winger has only made three league starts for Chris Wilder’s Blades and only one since August, although he did play all 90 minutes of their FA Cup victory over AFC Fylde on Sunday.

Like Che Adams, he put in a very strong performance against Bielsa’s side last season and was the match-winner for QPR in a 1-0 win over Leeds at Loftus Road in February.

Woodrow is Barnsley’s top scorer with nine league goals so far this season.

He’s an absolutely vital player for the relegation-battling Tykes, so any deal to take him away from Oakwell would be difficult, but Leeds don’t have a lot of depth behind Patrick Bamford and have no like-for-like players able to step up were he to get injured.
