Two motorists rushed to hospital after A939 crash as road locked down by cops

Two motorists have been rushed to hospital following a horror crash which took place in the Highlands this afternoon.

Mercy crews, including Police Scotland and an air ambulance, raced to the A939 near Ferness, Nairn.

The collision involved two motorbikes and a car and occurred around 3.30pm on the road by Loch Belivat.

Both the male motorcyclists, aged 28 and 26, were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

Their injuries have been described as serious, but stable by medical staff.

The male driver of the car and female passenger were shaken, but not injured.

A photo taken at the scene shows two mangled bikes lying on a grassy verge, which is located within a series of bends in a wooded area.

Different parts of both vehicles, which were clearly damaged in the collision, are strewn across the road.

A car, the right hand side of which seems to have also suffered some impact, is parked stationary on the road.

The air bag in the passenger seat of the car can be seen to have inflated, too.

Sergeant Alasdair MacKay, of Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit, said: "Enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone with information to please contact us.

"If you were in the area at the time and witnessed the crash, or have any information or relevant dash-cam footage which may be able to assist our investigation, then please get in touch.”

Police Scotland can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting reference number 2212 of Thursday, June 23.
