Two motorcyclists seriously hurt in Abercynon crash

Police are investigating a serious crash which left two motorcycle riders with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to a collision involving a car and a motorbike on the B4275 Abercynon Road, Abercynon, last night.

The accident happened near a stretch of the road known as the quarter mile junction at around 6.45pm.

Detectives said two people riding a Blue Yamaha motorcycle were seriously injured in a collision with a red MG ZR motor car.

The pair were taken by ambulance to separate hospitals - Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr, and the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

Police have now issued an appeal for information and particularly would like to hear from anyone who might have dashcam footage of either vehicle prior to the collision.

Anyone able to help should contact South Wales Police on 101 and quote occurrence number 2000045998.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called on Thursday, February 6, at approximately 18:37 to reports of a road traffic accident involving a single motorbike on Abercynon Road, near Mountain Ash.

"We responded with one rapid response vehicle, one specialised medical car and two emergency ambulances. One patient was transported to Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil and another patient was transported to University Hospital Of Wales, Cardiff.”
