Two more walk through coronavirus test sites have opened in Sefton

Two more coronavirus testing centre have opened in Sefton as the fight against the spread of Covid continues.

New sites have opened at the Netherton Activity Centre car park in Glovers Lane, and at Crosby Library, bringing the total number of such walk-through centres in the borough to four.

Other walk-through testing sites are located in Bootle and Southport.

People with coronavirus symptoms will be able to book an appointment online or by calling 119, and the site is intended to be easily accessible without a car.

Each testing site will be open daily from 8am-8pm, with between four and eight testing bays which can each test up to three people an hour.

Merseyside’s first walk-through centres, at Bootle Town Hall and at Southport Town Hall, as well as mobile testing units across the borough, have been operational in Sefton on most days since the start of July.

This has meant tens of thousands of tests have been provided to people across Sefton.

Cllr Ian Maher, leader of Sefton Council, says the opening of further centres is “the latest important step” in the borough’s battle against the virus.

Cllr Maher said: “Testing is still a vital tool in helping to overcome the spread of Covid-19 infections, and I am delighted we can open these two new walk-through sites, in addition to the new Mobile Unit location at Aintree Racecourse.

“The opening of the new walk-through centres is the latest important step in ensuring we have accessible testing facilities for the people of Sefton, when and where they need them.”

Testing is only available for those either with coronavirus symptoms – a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense or taste – or those who have been asked to get tested by a doctor, public health professional or by their local council.

Anyone with one or more of these symptoms should book a test at one of Sefton’s walk through or mobile test units online here or by calling 119.

Cllr Maher added that Sefton Council is continuing to explore more opportunities for test sites in the borough.
