Two more schools hit by coronavirus cases as pupils sent home to self isolate

Two more primary schools on Merseyside have positive covid-19 cases with children being told to self-isolate for 14 days.

St John's Catholic Junior School in Bebington and St Andrews of the Apostle in Halewood are the latest schools to be affected.

Letters, seen by the ECHO, were sent out to parents and carers within the last few days informing them of the development.

At St John's, the whole of Year 6 have been instructed to self-isolate after a pupil from that year tested positive for coronavirus.

The message said: "I am writing to inform you that a pupil in Year 6 has tested positive for coronavirus.

"The individual has not been in school since they developed symptoms, and has been self-isolating at home as per government advice.

"They have since accessed a test and have tested positive.

"All of Year 6 will need to self-isolate for 14 days and have been informed.

"The school will remain open for siblings in a different class.

"We have been in contact with and followed he guidance from Public Health England and the Department for Education."

Parents with children at St Andrews of the Apostle in Halewood received correspondence on Thursday that there was a "confirmed case of Covid-19."

It advised that children should self-isolate for 14 days.

The ECHO understands the case relates back to September 4 when the child was last in school.

It said: "We have followed the national guidance and identified that all children in Year 5 will have been in close contact with the affected child.

"In line with the Public Health England guidance, we recommend now stay at home and self-isolate until Saturday 19th September.

"They may return to school on Monday 21st September.

"We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community.

"If your child is well at the end of the 14 days and self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities.

"A negative test does not mean that your child can return to school earlier than 14 days."
