Two more people die with coronavirus at Bristol Royal Infirmary

The coronavirus death toll at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) has risen to 48.

The NHS England update issued yesterday (April 16) confirmed two new deaths at the city centre hospital since the previous day's figures were released.

The figure at Southmead Hospital has remained at 50, while Bath's Royal United Hospital has stayed at 41 deaths and Weston General Hospital at three.

A total of 98 people have died with Covid-19 in Bristol hospitals, according to NHS England.

In recent days we have shared tributes to four people who died with coronavirus in our area.

They are Bristol-based First Bus driver Hussen Mudei, Southmead Hospital healthcare assistant Maureen Ellington, Weston General Hospital worker Amarante Dias and former Bristol University lecturer John Adler.

Bristol has 374 confirmed cases of coronavirus following a rise of just five in yesterday's Public Health England update.

A further three were confirmed in North Somerset, bringing that area's total to 127.

Only one more person was infected in South Gloucestershire, where the figure stands at 223.

A total of 13,729 UK patients have died in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus, up by 861 on the previous day.

Thousands more are thought to have died in care homes, private homes and hospices.

The Department of Health said that, as of 9am on Thursday, 327,608 people have been tested for the virus of which 103,093 were positive.
