Two more new arrivals set to bolster Swansea's Parc Tawe Retail Park

A half empty retail park in Swansea is slowly being filled as two more new arrivals have stated their intention to move in and bolster the location.

At present, Parc Tawe Retail Park has roughly half of its units occupied, a situation which has remained the same for some years.

But, as we have reported, things have looked a lot brighter for its future in recent months, with the likes of Aldi set to move into the old Toys R Us unit, and Burger King planning on creating a new drive-thru restaurant there. A new access road has also been approved.

Now, there's even more good news on the horizon in the efforts to revitalise the destination.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has asked Swansea Council for permission to move into the retail park.

The plans are still in their early stages, with the scope of the application yet to be revealed, but the DWP has asked to transform unit seven from retail use into a base for financial and professional services.

And there's set to be new life at unit 2A of Parc Tawe, as the council has just approved plans from Frederick Whitcomb of RBL Projects to transform it into a new kitchen, sales and showroom store.

The south of the retail destination was taken over by Centurion Tawe Ltd in the first half of last year, after being sold by previous owners Hammerson, just four years after it carried out a massive £15m redevelopment of the shopping and leisure destination.

The new owners had revealed at the time they were in discussions with various potential stakeholders and there has been “firm interest” in a number of the empty units by big retail names, and we are beginning to see the early signs of that.
