Two more coronavirus cases confirmed in Liverpool as UK total rises to 115

Two more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Liverpool.

Liverpool City Council have revealed that two Liverpool residents have tested positive for the potentially deadly virus today, March 5.

This brings the total number of cases in the city to three, after it was confirmed yesterday that a resident had contracted the virus during a recent trip to northern Italy.

One of the two new cases is believed to be a close relative of the individual who tested positive for the virus yesterday.

While the second confirmed case is believed to have contracted the virus after returning to Liverpool from a trip to Northern Italy.

Liverpool City Council have just tweeted the announcement, which reads: "Two more cases of #Coronavirus have now been confirmed in #Liverpool , bringing the total to three.

"One is a known contact of an existing patient and the other has recently returned from Italy. The patients are receiving specialist treatment."

The council said the two new cases in the city are among 30 new cases announced today by the Chief Medical Officer.

Public Health England is currently contacting people who may have had close contact with the confirmed case.


Close contacts will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after they had contact with the confirmed case.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK now stands at 115.

A Liverpool Council statement added: "Public Health England (PHE), Liverpool City Council and the local NHS are working closely together to effectively manage the cases which have been announced today.

"PHE is currently contacting people who may have had close contact with the confirmed cases. Close contacts will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after they had contact with the confirmed cases."
