Two more clubs investigating reports of racism on shameful weekend for British football

Hearts and Bristol City are both investigating reports of racial abuse from their matches this weekend.

Scottish Premiership side Hearts are looking into claims that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was racially abused during Sunday's draw at Tynecastle.

Bristol City, meanwhile, are also responding to reports that language of a racist nature was used by their fans at Luton Town during Saturday's match.

The alleged incidents come on the same week that football was shamed by racist incidents.

First, England's Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria was halted after the likes of Raheem Sterling, Tyrone Mings and Marcus Rashford were targeted by vile chanting from the home crowd.

But then deplorable incidents came closer to home on Saturday as during their FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie with Yeovil Town after it was claimed fans racially abused their players.

The Football Association and police officials are looking into the alleged incidents.

On Sunday, Hearts released a statement saying they were looking into claims of an alleged racist incident.

"The club is aware of an incident of alleged racism and is currently investigating it," read a statement.

"It goes without saying that Heart of Midlothian Football Club utterly condemns any form of racism and any individuals found guilty of such an offence will face an indefinite ban from Tynecastle Park."

The statement came hours after Bristol City said it was looking into an alleged incident of their own.

In the statement, City said that they celebrate "diversity and inclusivity".

They continued: "Action will be taken against anyone behaving in a racist manner at a Bristol City match, who has purchased their ticket or season card through the club, as well as reporting them to the relevant authorities.

"The club are now fully investigating these reports and can assure supporters that appropriate action will be taken."
