Two more charged over 'mistaken identity' gang shooting

Police have arrested a man over a triple shooting that left one man dead. (HANDOUT/NSW POLICE)

More charges have been laid over a triple shooting which police allege was a bungled hit on a rival gang.

Homicide investigators raided a Liverpool business in Sydney on Tuesday, arresting a 35-year-old man and charging him with murder as well as other charges connected to the July 2023 shooting.

A second man, aged 27 and already in prison, was taken to Riverstone Police station on Tuesday where he was also charged with murder.

Seven arrests had previously been made over the shooting at Greenacre, in Sydney's southwest, that killed Ahmed Al Azzam, 25, and left another man, 22, with life-altering spinal injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting to be linked to a Sydney crime family, with the alleged hitmen allegedly misidentifying the victims as members of a rival crime organisation.

The two men arrested on Tuesday were also charged with two counts each of attempted murder and with participating in a criminal organisation.

The 27-year-old was also charged with violating a firearms prohibition order.

The 35-year-old has been refused bail and was set to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday, while the 27-year-old was expected to appear at Blacktown Local Court.

A 22-year-old man believed to be one of the hitmen is on the run with investigators saying he fled overseas soon after the attack.
