Two MILLION bottles of wine destroyed in devastating Bordeaux warehouse fire

Two million bottles of wine are feared to have been destroyed in a warehouse fire in south-west France on Tuesday.

A total of 60 firefighters were sent to the blaze at the storage facility building owned by Sovex GrandsChateaux, which produces a range of red, whites, and roses, in the suburbs of Bordeaux.

Video taken by an employee emerged showing the flames engulfing the wooden barrels and debris flying through the air.

The man can be heard shouting in panic and other colleagues are evacuating the warehouse.

Plumes of smokes billowed out the building and can be seen from afar.

It's said firefighters took about 15 hours to put out the blaze.

According to France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine, two million bottles of wine, and spirits, were destroyed or made unfit for sale as the result of the fire.

Around 80 employees made their way to safety area and no injuries were reported.

A preliminary result from the investigation indicated that the fire seems to have started in the false ceiling, which collapsed in the fire, onto the pallets and crates of alcohol.

Sovex GrandsChateaux, a wine trading house, is said trying to assess the damage with their insurers.
