Two men who blasted shotgun at pal on poultry farm guilty of attempted murder

Two men who blasted a car dealer friend with a shotgun were yesterday convicted of attempted murder.

At the High Court in Glasgow, John Docherty, 46, and Don Templeton, 37, from Johnstone in Renfrewshire, were found guilty of discharging the weapon at James McGurk, 42, at Crosslee Poultry Farm, Bridge of Weir, in October 2017.

James was shot from behind as he worked on a car and pellets hit his right buttock.

Before carrying out the attack, Templeton stopped at a Tesco petrol station in Linwood to buy fuel for his Mercedes estate. He and Docherty were caught on CCTV at the filling station.

Minutes later, the car was seen on camera turning into the farm then, shortly afterwards, driving away quickly.

James said he didn’t know who shot him. He told the court he didn’t think Templeton had anything to do with the shooting. But he said Templeton had been angry about stolen tools.

Docherty and Templeton were remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.
