Two men who attempted to reverse at speed away from Gardai before trying to flee the scene on foot were arrested after a firearm and ammunition were found in the vehicle they were in.
The seizure was made in the Pinewood Green area of Balbriggan as part of Drogheda's intelligence-led Operation Stratus.
The Balbriggan Detective Unit tried to stop the vehicle but the pair failed to comply with Gardai and sped backwards in order to get away.
The arrested duo, aged in their 20s and 30s, then decided to abandon the vehicle and fled on foot but were chased by Gardai who nabbed them in shrubbery near Castleland Park View.
The vehicle was seized by Gardaí for technical examination where a sawn-off Beretta shotgun and six shotgun cartridges were recovered and are being analysed by the Ballistics Unit.
Gardai confirmed that the two men are currently being detained at Swords and Balbriggan Garda Stations and investigations are ongoing.
