Two men to appear in court in connection with €1.3m cannabis plants seizure in Tramore, Co Waterford

Two men are due to appear in court this morning in connection to a seizure of over 1,600 cannabis plants worth a staggering €1.3m in Waterford.

The men, both Vietnamese nationals, aged 32 and 43, will appear before a sitting of Waterford District Court at 9:30am.

Officers from the Tramore Drugs Unit, assisted by the Armed Support Unit in Waterford, executed a search warrant at 6pm on Thursday, April 18 at an industrial premises in Waterford Airport Business Park in Co Waterford.

During the operation, gardai found a "substantial" grow house.

A garda spokesperson said: "Initial estimates put the seizure at €800,000 but following a full examination of the site investigating Gardaí have since confirmed that a total of 1644 cannabis plants were seized with an estimated street value in excess of €1.3m."

The men were arrested at the scene and detained at Tramore Garda Station under Section Two of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996.
