Two men taken to hospital with serious burns after gas bottle explosion at Upwey

Two men injured in a gas bottle explosion at a property in Melbourne's east have been taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to reports of an explosion at Upwey around 1:30pm.

A 72-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries and a 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious.

Ambulance Victoria said both patients were being treated for serious burns.

Both men have been identified as Upwey residents.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
