Two men 'slashed' in 'deplorable' robbery on University of Nottingham campus

Two students were robbed and 'slashed by a bladed weapon' on the University of Nottingham campus.

The incident happened at University Park around 1.30am on Monday, June, 17, police have confirmed.

Two students, both men, received injuries from a bladed weapon, and are being treated in hospital.

Police have also confirmed the students were "slashed" by the weapon.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Both students were approached by three men who took items including a bag and a mobile phone.

Police have set up a cordon at Florence Boot Hall inside the west entrance to the university off Beeston Lane.

One student said the incident had sent "shockwaves through the university".

Ale Rivera, 23, who lives on campus and studies culture, media and visual studies, said: “It’s disheartening that university students cannot feel safe in their learning environment.

"It’s sent shockwaves through the university, we’re definitely more wary of walking around late on campus.”

Detective Sergeant Roni Isembert, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have increased patrols in the area.

"We take reports such as these very seriously and all reported incidents on the University campus are being investigated thoroughly.”

A spokeswoman for the University of Nottingham said: "We are shocked at a deplorable instance of mugging on the University Park campus in the early hours of this morning.
"Campus security teams are supporting police with their enquiries and have put on additional patrols to assure safety.

"We are offering welfare support to the students concerned.

"Students have been reminded to take sensible precautions and follow our standard ."
