Two men shot in north London park during suspected robbery

Two men shot in a northwest London park may have been victims of a violent robbery, police said.

The pair were found suffering multiple gunshot wounds in Canons Park, Edgware at 6.30am on Monday.

Armed cops rushed to the normally “peaceful park” to find the victims.

Both were rushed to hospital where their condition has been declared as not life threatening.

Photos from the scene published by Harrow Online show a used first aid kit and a coat strewn across the scene as police cordoned off every entrance to the park.

One cafe owner told the Standard: “I’m utterly shocked and very sad. Canons Park is a beautiful park, steeped in history and in a predominantly affluent area. Beyond graffiti appearing from time to time, it’s a peaceful park.”

A Met spokesman said: “Armed police were among those responding.

“Two men were found with suspected gunshot injuries. Both have been taken to hospital, where their conditions have been assessed as not life-threatening.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

“Early indications suggest the men may have been victims of a robbery.

“There have been no arrests at this time. Police are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.”

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We sent three ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene.

“We treated two patients at the scene and took them both to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
