Two men set to face trial over alleged acid attack threats at Hamilton house

Two men allegedly threatened to throw acid on a woman when they forced entry to her Hamilton home.

David Mathewson, 26, and Christopher Boyle, 25, are accused of assaulting a female at a property in Inglefield Gardens on January 8 last year.

It's alleged they were acting with an unknown accomplice when they brandished a knife and a metal pole, smashed a glass door and made threats.

The charge states that the woman was robbed of her car and a mobile phone.

Mathewson is also accused of driving the stolen car dangerously at excessive speeds on various roads in Bellshill.

It's claimed that police in pursuit had to take evasive action when he veered on to the wrong side of the carriageway.

Mathewson, of Motherwell, is further accused of acting in a threatening or abusive manner at Wishaw General Hospital, resisting arrest, assaulting two police officers and failing to provide breath specimens.

Boyle, of, Holytown, allegedly breached a curfew.

An unrelated charge alleges that Mathewson stole a vehicle from McTaggart Crescent, Motherwell, in May 2019.

Not guilty pleas were lodged on behalf of both men at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

They are on bail and face trial in October.
