Two men 'seriously injured' after falling from industrial site in city centre

Two men have been found seriously injured after reportedly falling from a high floor at an industrial site in Liverpool this afternoon.

Police, paramedics and fire crews are at the scene on the corner of Chapel Street and Rumford Place in the city centre where a road closure is in place and the men have been rushed to hospital.

A pedestrian area is also shut by the Pier Head to allow an air ambulance to land, while a cordon has been erected, reports the Liverpool Echo.

One of the high rise office blocks in the area has been pictured with scaffolding running up several floors.

Police are said to have been inside one of the office buildings.

According to witnesses, the men were using an industrial lift which fell, but this has not been confirmed by the emergency services.

A worker from inside the office building at 1 Rumford Place told a reporter how "the building shook" when the outside lift fell.

Merseyside Police said they were called to an unspecified industrial site at around 3.30pm to reports two men had been found seriously injured after reportedly falling.

People are being asked to avoid the area while the emergency services work at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing and a road closure is now in place on Chapel Street. A pedestrian area by the Pier Head is also shut for the air ambulance. Please avoid the area."

Merseyside Fire and Rescue service said two fire engines and the search and rescue team are at the scene.

Photos and video show a line of police cars, as well as an ambulance and fire engine parked at the side of the road, while pedestrians walk by.

The Mirror has contacted North West Ambulance Service for further information.
