The Army EOD unit located a small device in a lane in the Appletree Court area and later confirmed it posed no threat to the public.

It was revealed yesterday evening that a further property in Portishead, 'directly linked' to the Worle incident, was being searched as a precautionary measure.

The device found in the Appletree Court area yesterday was made safe, and officers do not believe there are any further devices.

A police spokesperson said: "Investigations like this can only be undertaken with the assistance and support of the local community.

"We fully appreciate this can sometimes be inconvenient and genuinely appreciate the understanding and support of those directly affected by it."
