Two men released after man dies trying to stop his car being robbed

The two men that were arrested in the case of a man being run over by his own car while trying to stop it from being robbed have been released.

Ian McDonnell passed away on January 28 in Tallaght University Hospital after he suffered life threatening injuries while trying to stop the theft.

The two men aged in their 20s were released without charge last night.

A spokeswoman said: "Gardai investigating the fatal incident that occurred on Robinhood Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, on Sunday evening 23rd January, 2022, have released without charge the two men who were arrested on Wednesday 16th February 2022.

"The men, both aged in the 20s were released late last night, Thursday 17th February, 2022 and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions."

They added: "Investigations are ongoing."
