Two men recovering after 'frightening street' shooting

A man in his 20s is recovering after he was shot in the hand on a Merseyside street.

A second man escaped serious injury by inches after his coat was damaged by the gunfire.

Police were called out to Greenwich Road in Aintree at around 8pm on Monday evening.

A man was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his hand. He was taken to hospital.

This evening police confirmed that the man's injury was "non-life threatening."

There was a large police presence in the area today until this afternoon, when Greenwich Road was re-opened.

Detectives have express concern that the victim and passer-by could have both been more seriously injured.

Detective Inspector Jennie Beck said to the ECHO : “At this early stage, we are looking to hear from anyone in the vicinity of Greenwich Road who saw or heard this incident, or anyone making off on foot or at speed in any vehicle.

"A man has been injured and this could have been even more serious, both for the victim and any passers-by, so tell us what you know and we'll take action.

"A witness to this incident has had his coat damaged by a gunshot, which is an absolutely frightening experience, and we will be supporting them fully as we investigate.
