Two men killed in light aircraft crash in Athy, Kildare as remains located in the early hours

Two people have been killed in a light aircraft crash in Belan, in the Moone area of Athy in Kildare.

Gardai and emergency services attended the scene on Thursday night and a search of the area was carried out with the assistance of the Irish Coast Guard helicopter rescue 116.

The aircraft was located in the early hours of Friday morning at 4:30am.

A man, 70, and another male in his late 50s were fatally injured in the crash.

Their bodies were removed to the mortuary in Naas General Hospital. 

The Air Accident Investigation unit are currently at the scene and the Irish Aviation Authority have been notified.
