Two men have died following a crash involving a NSW Rural Fire Service truck in the state's central west.

Emergency services were called to reports of an accident involving a Ford Falcon and the truck on the Castlereagh Highway south of Capertee near Lithgow around 9.30am.

Police said the two male occupants of the Ford died at the scene.

They have not yet been formally identified.

A RFS spokesperson said four mitigation crew members were travelling in the truck at the time of the "serious accident".

All were assessed by paramedics and one was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

"An RFS Critical Incident Support Services (CISS) team has been deployed to Capertee to ensure our members and their families and colleagues have the support and assistance they need," they said.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact CrimeStoppers as they begin an investigation into the crash.

The RFS said it was assisting police with their inquiries.
