Two men injured after boat catches fire in South Australia's Riverland region

Blanchetown is a popular recreation spot on the Murray River.

Two men have been transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) after the boat they were travelling in caught fire on the Murray River this afternoon.

The Country Fire Service (CFS) was called to Blanchetown, north-east of Adelaide, at about 2:15pm this afternoon.

Two men, aged 42 and 46, are being treated for burns to their legs.

The South Australian Ambulance Service told the ABC one of the men also had burns on his arm.

The CFS said the fire was believed to have started in the engine area of the boat.

It is believed the men were assisted by people on the river.

Both were transported to the RAH in Adelaide this afternoon.

Witnesses said the boat was in the middle of the water and the men were trying to start its engine.

"Obviously had a fuel leak and the starter motor got hot and it went bang!" a witness named Glenn said.

"The boat's all good. It [the fire] wasn't that big. It was just a flash … The family saw what happened from the shore and they raced down to get some help.

"They're all devastated and heading back to Adelaide, I'm pretty sure."
