Two men in touching mission to send cancer-stricken mum's family to Disneyland - even though they've never even met her

They've never even met her.

But two men are trying to raise enough cash to send a cancer-stricken mum's young family to Disneyland.

Walker's Tanya Davies, battling the disease for the second time, revealed she wants to spend her time "making memories" with her two sons.

But after her plight broke their hearts, pals Gary Edwards and David Renwick decided to do whatever they could for her.

In just weeks, they've organised a giant pigeon auction, persuading bird fanciers from around Britain who have also never met Tanya, to part with their prized pigeons to raise money for the Walker family.

"I read the story in the Chronicle, and just thought 'what if that was my daughter'," said David.

"I'm lucky as I have my family but this poor lass has been handed a bad hand so if we can help her, we should."

Last month, "petrified" Tanya found out how, aged just 32, the cancer she thought she'd beaten before Christmas was back.

A day after the bombshell, she asked sons Ben and Jack to promise to always look after each other.

Newcastle's East End rallied around the family raising thousands - but she hadn't also counted on the kindness of strangers.

Strangers like Gary and David.

"I've never met her," admits David.

"On the day of this auction, she won't be there because I think she's doing something with her kids and so she should.

"It doesn't matter if she's there, but that is what people are like - people like helping others, and with pigeons, there is a strong community.

After discussing Tanya's plight during a Sunday pint, the pair shared her story with the bird fancying community.

Asking for donations of birds for the auction, pigeon fanciers from as far away as Liverpool and Dorset gifted some of their best birds for free.

"I have even been texting strangers from Ireland," admitted David.

Those who couldn't donate birds gave cash.

Hundreds of pounds have already been raised in cash alone, while some of the 70-odd birds could fetch a song under the hammer.

Recently, a bird dubbed the 'Lewis Hamilton of Pigeons' sold at auction for over £1m.

While none of the birds are expected to top that figure, David adds: "We hope to raise enough to send them somewhere like Disneyland.

"Whatever we raise though we just want her to be able to make memories."

The auction takes place on Thursday at St Peter's Club at 7.30pm.
