Two pensioners died after being hit by a car as they crossed the road.
The men, along with a woman, were rushed to hospital after the horror crash in Billinge .
Both were pronounced dead a short time later, while the woman suffered serious injuries.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were called to Upholland Road at around 8.15pm on Friday, December 21 after reports of a collision involving the pedestrians and a Ford Kuga.
One of the men killed was believed to be in his 80s, police said, while the other was in his 70s.
The woman, whose injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, was in her 70s.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, which happened as the three pensioners crossed the road close to Longshaw Old Road.
An investigation has been launched by the Greater Manchester Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
Further enquiries have established that the pedestrians were crossing Upholland Road, close to the junction with Longshaw Old Road, at the time of the collision.
Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, I want to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the men who died following the collision on Upholland Road last night.
“We are working to provide their loved ones with support from specially trained officers as they come to terms with their loss.
“Local residents may notice an increased police presence in the area as we conduct further enquiries and we are appealing to anyone with information or dashcam footage that can assist us to please get in touch.”
