Two men have died an hour apart in separate knife attacks on a night of bloodshed in the capital.

Police found a man in a car suffering knife wounds in Barnet, north-west London, shortly before 8.30pm on Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Just over an hour earlier, a man was stabbed to death and another was rushed to hospital suffering knife wounds in an unrelated incident in north-east London.

The killings come after 2019 became the capital’s bloodiest year for more than a decade earlier this week when a man stabbed outside his home later died in hospital.

In the first of the separate stabbings on Thursday, emergency services rushed to Bromley Road in Walthamstow at about 7.15pm to reports of a fight and found two men with knife wounds.

One man, thought to be in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, also believed to be in his twenties, was rushed to hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made and a police investigation has been launched.

In the second incident, police were called to reports of a man suffering stab wounds in a vehicle off the Barnet Bypass near Scratchwood Park.

After a search of a car found at the scene, a man in his thirties was found inside a vehicle with stab wounds. He was declared dead a short time later.

Of the Barnet victim, Scotland Yard said in statement: “After a search of a car found at the scene, a man, in his thirties, was found inside a vehicle with stab wounds.

“Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was declared dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing to notify his next of kin. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”

The force added: “Homicide detectives in Specialist Crime have been informed.

“A crime scene has been put in place at the scene. Enquiries continue.”
