Two men executed by firing squad in Somalia for killing journalist

Two men convicted of killing a journalist have been executed by firing squad in Somalia, according to an Associated Press report.

Colonel Mohamed Hassan, a spokesman for the judiciary in Mogadishu, said Ali Bashir Osman and Abdullahi Shariff were convicted of the killing of Mohammed Mohamud Tima Adde, a reporter for the UK-based Universal TV, who was shot in his car on 22 October 2013.

Universal TV relies on a number of correspondents based in the Horn of Africa. Tima'adde had been investigating a range of human rights issues in Mogadishu, including stories on forced evictions, gender-based violence and the displacement of civilian populations.
