Two men who allegedly tortured a woman with a knife and hammer have been arrested and charged on the Gold Coast.

The woman was reportedly attacked by the men, who were known to her, early on Friday morning in a unit at a complex on Trickett Street in the heart of Surfers Paradise.

During a prolonged 45-minute attack, the men beat the woman with a hammer and slashed her legs with a knife before hacking off chunks of hair, it is alleged.

Police believe the woman, 34, was able to escape to a nearby hotel where she raised the alarm before being taken to hospital in stable condition.

A 36-year-old from Mareeba and 40-year-old from Surfers Paradise have been charged with torture, wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.

Both were expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.
