Two men charged with manslaughter over death of Harvey Tyrrell who was electrocuted in pub garden

Heartbreak: a Facebook picture of Harvey Tyrrell, who was "kind-natured"

Two men have been charged following the death of seven-year-old Harvey Tyrrell, who died after being electrocuted in a pub garden in Romford.

Harvey died in hospital after the incident, which happened in September 2018 while he was trying to retrieve a football from the garden of the King Harold pub.

A post-mortem examination showed he died from electrocution.

David Bearman, 71, of Hornchurch, was charged with manslaughter and abstracting electricity.

Colin Naylor, 72, of Rayleigh, was charged with manslaughter.

They were both charged on Friday and will appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 11 July.

A family friend previously told the Standard the Harvey, who attended Harold Wood primary school pupil, was a “bright” young boy.

Shortly after his death, they said: “He was a bright, happy child and his family doted on him. It is so tragic.

"Everyone is still in shock. I feel terrible for the family and his friends. I can’t believe this could happen.”
