Two men charged with fatally shooting woman in Chicago as she held her 1-year-old daughter

CHICAGO _ Two men have been charged with fatally shooting a woman in her 20s as she held her 1-year-old baby daughter on Chicago's West Side earlier this week.

Michael Washington, 39, and Eric Adams, 23, have each been charged with first-degree murder. Both are from downstate Urbana.

Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Adams drove a silver Chevy Impala down the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue, past Brittany Hill and two men who were standing next to a parked car, according to police. Hill, 24, was holding her daughter Ja-Miley.

Washington opened fire on the three while the car was still moving, police said. Hill and the two men scattered, with Hill running down the street, limping from a gunshot wound to her right side and clutching her baby. The car stopped and Washington and Adams both got out and kept firing toward Hill, who was crouched behind a parked car, her baby cradled beneath her, police said.

Washington and Adams got back in the Impala and sped away. Police said the two were arrested later in the day, around 1:55 p.m., in Urbana. Police have said they believe the men with Hill were the targets of the shooting.

Both suspects are due in court Thursday.
