Two men charged with attempted robbery of bottle shop

A police officer fatally shot a 48-year-old man at the bottle shop.

Detectives have charged two men following an attempted armed robbery in Melbourne's east in which police shot dead another man.

A police officer fatally shot a 48-year-old man during the incident at a bottle shop on Park Road, Park Orchards about 9pm on Sunday.

Shortly after the shooting, police arrested a 50-year-old Ringwood East man and a 42-year-old Mont Albert man. Both men have been charged with attempted armed robbery.

The men faced court yesterday and were remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court again on April 23.

Police were in the area at the time of the incident as part of an investigation into a series of armed robberies.

A police spokeswoman said the officer involved, a senior constable from a specialist unit, was not injured and was receiving departmental support.

Homicide Squad detectives will investigate the shooting on behalf of the coroner.

Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation, in accordance with standard practice following police shootings.
