Two men have been charged after a man was followed and then stabbed in a late-night attack in Melbourne's CBD.

The Melbourne man, 35, was stabbed on Lonsdale Street, near Queen Street, about 12.30am on Friday, with a number of bystanders coming to his aid before paramedics arrived.

Police allege the victim was followed by two men before he was attacked, and the men were seen walking away from the scene.

A Southbank man, 52, and another Melbourne man, 22, were arrested at their homes about 1.30pm on Friday, with a knife allegedly used in the stabbing found during the raids.

They were later both charged with seven offences, including intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury and affray.

The men have been remanded to face court on Saturday.

The victim remains in hospital with serious injuries.
